Running your first moderated usability test on Userfeel?
No worries — we've got you covered!
A moderated test means you (the moderator) will be meeting with a tester live, at the same time, through Google Meet. It’s a great way to guide the user, ask follow-up questions, and observe real-time feedback.
Here’s a simple step-by-step guide to help you run your first moderated session smoothly:
1. Join the Session via Desktop
To begin, make sure you:
- Download and install the Userfeel App on your desktop.
- Log in to the session using your desktop, even if you're running a mobile test for the participant.
- The Userfeel app is essential — it allows you to access tasks, scenarios, and ensures everything is recorded properly.
2. Meet Your Tester via Google Meet
- At the scheduled time, both you and the tester will join the Google Meet link.
- Even though you're joining the session through a Google Meet link, it is very important that you also have the Userfeel Moderator App running in the background on your desktop.
- This ensures that the session is properly recorded and that you can access the task list, scenarios, and other key test controls.
- The test is run live, so you’ll be speaking directly with the tester and guiding them through the session.
3. Present the Scenario and Tasks Live
- As the moderator, you will explain the scenario to the tester during the call.
- You’ll also provide the tasks one at a time, based on how the session is going.
- This helps keep the test natural and conversational — just like a real interaction.
4. Ask the Tester to Share Their Screen
- If you want to observe how the tester navigates a website or app, ask them to share their screen.
- You can send any URLs or instructions via the Google Meet chat box, which is especially helpful if they need to visit a specific page.
5. You're in Control — But Keep It Natural
- Remember, the key to a good moderated session is making the tester feel comfortable.
- Let them think out loud, ask follow-up questions if something is unclear, and guide them gently if needed.
